Fashion Design Students to Hempel Awards 2023 Final

Fashion Design LaSalle College Jakarta's student, Jessy Saphira, is chosen as one of the finalists of Hempel Awards at the 31st China International Young Fashion Designers Contest.

In the path to win one of the most enduring and influential international fashion design competition in China, Jessy presented her mini collection titled "Over the Moon". The collection drew inspiration from Batak and Chinese culture that rooted in her own culture as students that comes from Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia.

Her creation granted her a spot among the top 33 participants with its striking abstract hand painting illustration of the moon and the use of "Ulos", one of Indonesian traditional fabric that comes from Batak Ethnic.

The collection is crafted in approximately one term during her study at LaSalle College Jakarta. Her creative process began with thorough research of the culture and fabrics before solidifying her ideation and goes through the fabric selection processes and treatment considerations.  

 

Hempel Awards

The "Hempel Awards," the 31st China International Young Fashion Designers Contest, stands as the most influential and enduring international fashion design competition in China.

With participation from 720 contestants representing 66 institutions worldwide, the competition curated the top 33 best works, with Jessy Saphira emerging as the sole representative from Indonesia to be among the selected 33.
